Oxa has launched its first commercial Oxa Driver product through a series of passenger shuttle services that will operate in Jacksonville, FL. The services are operated by US shuttle service provider Beep in partnership with the Jacksonville Transport Authority (JTA), and the Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ). The shuttles themselves work as part of an AV program licensed by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The AV technology company’s Oxa Driver system enables vehicle automation independent of human control, though trained safety attendants will initially be deployed on the FSCJ route to instill trust among passengers before the service becomes driverless. The first rollout will be followed by a further seven services featuring Oxa software planned in cities across the U.S. and UK in 2024. Oxa’s US shuttle services running Oxa Driver will be deployed in partnership with its strategic US fleet operations partner, Beep.

The launch of the Jacksonville service follows Beep and Oxa’s announcement to deploy Oxa Driver in a similar service catering to Lake Nona, a mixed-use community located in southeast Orlando. Other city services yet to be announced in 2024 will offer a mix of private and public transportation shuttles using a variety of vehicle types, from fully customized to retrofitted commercial platforms.
