Autobrains, a developer of AI-powered automotive solutions, has announced Air2Road, a new localization technology developed to enhance the capabilities of ADAS and autonomous driving solutions. Powered by Autobrains’ Liquid AI Technology, Air2Road aims to deliver precise, real-time, vehicle localization for safe and efficient navigation, even in occlusions, adverse weather, and complex urban environments.
Through Air2Road, Autobrains is hoping to set a new standard for vehicle localization by combining ‘Signatures’ derived from two independent modalities (aerial imagery and ground-based perception) to ensure multimodal redundancy and accuracy. These Signatures are sparse binary hyperdimensional representations of both the driving environment and objects within it.
In addition to enabling multimodal redundancy, Air2Road’s Signature-based technology offers full coverage – continuing to function effectively even under trees, bridges, between buildings, and in any other scenario with bad reception of the GNSS signal.
The aerial images provided by Air2Road likewise generate additional data layers-such as road markings, traffic signs, and obstacles-enabling safer and more efficient driving decisions and a redundancy to real-time perception. At the same time, the technology is compatible with affordable aerial imagery from multiple vendors, while its compressed Signatures enable large areas to be stored directly on the vehicle. This allows for a low-memory, low-bandwidth system that in turn reduces the need for constant cloud connectivity
Autobrains highlighted that traditional localization systems, such as crowd-sourced maps, can require a fleet of vehicles to repeatedly traverse roads for data harvesting and building the map before a localization service can be launched. In streamlining this process, Air2Road enables the first vehicle on the road to achieve precise localization more quickly, ensuring scalable deployment across various regions without compromising accuracy. By leveraging real-time data on road conditions, traffic flow, and parking areas, Air2Road also supports safer, more optimized navigation.
Air2Road’s capabilities extend further to replicating mechanisms such as situational awareness and attention focus to ensure accurate decision-making. By filtering out irrelevant data and focusing on critical elements, such as road edges and buildings, the system can help enhance localization precision.
