Cainiao, an e-commerce logistics company owned by Alibaba Group, announced that its latest L4 AVs are officially on public sale, and will be deployed at scale to facilitate parcel deliveries between delivery stations and pick up stations on public roads.

Equipped with AutoDrive, a platform developed by Alibaba’s team, these vehicles have primarily been designed for commercial use at delivery stations. To support these operations, they leverage a comprehensive service support system to ensure safe operation on public roads and have secured road rights in several locations throughout China.

In Hangzhou’s Yuhang District, for example, a fleet of more than 20 Cainiao AVs is currently handling last-mile deliveries managing both package deliveries to hubs and collections from customers. Today these vehicles account for more than 30% of the station’s deliveries, with each vehicle handling at least 1,500 packages daily.

Cainiao’s logistics technology division has launched more than 400 digital projects across 20 countries, providing solutions for IoT, automation, digital supply chains, RFID readers, and smart hardware. Over the next three years, the company aims to roll out one thousand new digital projects globally, and partner with 100 companies over the next three years.
