WeRide has announced its expansion into Saudi Arabia, which the autonomous driving technology company is marking as a key step in its global growth strategy.
As part of its market entry, the company has launched will look to testing and eventually deploy both its Robotaxis and other core autonomous driving products in cities like Riyadh and AlUla. These activities will help the company as it progress towards the commercial rollout of these technologies and carries out its wider operations across the Saudi Arabia region.
In the region, WeRide has already begun ground preparation work ahead of its upcoming Robotaxi trial operations, with support from the Transport General Authority. The Saudi Arabia service is set to launch on Uber in the coming months, with full commercial services expected in late 2025. This deployment likewise supports Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 ambitions to build smart, sustainable cities by enhancing road safety, traffic management, and introducing innovative mobility solutions.
WeRide has also been testing and deploying its Robobus in key areas including King Fahad Medical City, Aramco residential communities, AlUla, and the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Riyadh. The L4 vehicle is designed to address last-mile transportation gaps, while complementing transit networks and serving various use cases, such as parks, hotels, and tourist attractions.
For WeRide, the Saudi Arabia launch builds on its prior expansions further along the Middle East. Earlier this month, for example, the company began testing its Robotaxi in Abu Dhabi, while also planning to extend its Robotaxi service coverage to Al Maryah and Al Reem Islands.
