Veoneer has signed an agreement to equip vehicles from the BMW Group with camera heads to support the OEM’s next-generation vision system for automated driving. The camera heads supplied as part of this collaboration work to support the previously-announced partnership between BMW, Qualcomm, and Arriver.
The high definition 8 MP camera is mounted behind the rear-view mirror and monitors the forward path of the vehicle. Here it provides reliable, accurate, information to the vehicle control system.
The BMW Group’s current AD stack is combined with Arriver’s Vision Perception and NCAP Drive Policy products on Qualcomm Technologies’ system-on-chip. This combination works to support the design of new automated driving functions spanning NCAP as well as SAE Level 2 and Level 3 autonomy. Veoneer’s camera heads are adapted to the current trend of a centralized and scalable software architecture, and will be an essential part of the sensor set-up required for the next generation automated driving platform.
