Valeo and Seeing Machines, a developer of AI-powered driver monitoring systems, have announced a new strategic collaboration aimed at strengthening their position in the driver and occupant monitoring systems (OMS) market.

As part of their agreement, Valeo will transfer its driver monitoring perception software activity to Seeing Machines. This activity, stemming from the acquisition of Valeo-owned, German start-up Asaphus, will now be managed by Seeing Machines. The collaboration will likewise enable Valeo to integrate the company’s interior monitoring perception software into the hardware and software architecture of its driver and occupant monitoring systems. Valeo says this integration will help it offer a full system for interior sensing, which itself is gaining popularity in tandem with upcoming regulations that will make it mandatory equipment.

For Seeing Machines, the partnership represents an opportunity to leverage Valeo’s existing infrastructure in order to strengthen its presence in Europe. Here, the company says that a Berlin-based team will allow it to better address the European market, and more easily meet the needs of an expanded customer base in the region.

At the same time, Asaphus will support Seeing Machines with unique IP and data, as well as a dedicated development group specializing in machine learning and AI capabilities for driving and sensing features. Seeing Machines will leverage these complementary skills to accelerate their feature roadmap and maintain their leadership position in driver and occupant monitoring system technology.

Together, Valeo and Seeing Machines are ultimately committed to offering innovative and integrated interior sensing solutions designed to enhance vehicle safety and occupant comfort.
