Uber and May Mobility have announced a new, multi-year, strategic partnership that will see thousands of May Mobility autonomous vehicles (AVs) deployed on the Uber platform over the next few years.

The companies expect this deployment to begin in Arlington, Texas by the end of 2025. Through their partnership, Uber and May Mobility are more broadly aiming to highlight their shared ambition to quickly scale the use of AVs in the ride-hailing industry, broaden access to AVs across diverse markets, and enhance consumer choice.

Under the agreement, on qualifying trips, Uber will offer customers the option to ride in a May Mobility AV on its ride-hailing platform. Facilitating this will be a fleet of hybrid-electric Toyota Sienna ‘Autono-MaaS’ vehicles provided by May Mobility equipped with its Multi-Policy Decision Making (MPDM) technology.

While it plans to utilize this technology to enable full driverless robotaxis on the Uber platform, May Mobility confirmed that the fleet will initially launch with onboard safety operators before transitioning to driverless. Following the launch in Arlington, Uber and May Mobility intend to expand their partnership to further U.S. markets in 2026.

May Mobility’s MPDM platform leverages real-time reasoning to handle unexpected situations with AI-powered speed and precision, helping it navigate real-world situations without the need to rely on predefined scenarios. The system can also adapt to new scenarios, environments, or ‘edge cases’, that have grown in popularity in AV deployments across the U.S. and Japan. Through these features, May Mobility is aiming for MPDM to enable safer, more reliable, autonomous riding experiences.

Having launched in Arlington, TX in 2021, May Mobility plans to use its experience in the area to roll out and deploy its new partnership with Uber, before expanding it beyond the existing service area. Both companies highlighted that further details on this initial launch will be shared in the coming months.
