Tier IV has launched a new, upgraded, version of its proprietary sensor fusion development kit. The newly-reworked development kit consolidates the dual-computer setup used by its predecessor into a single unit, enabling efficient, simplified, configuration, while helping users integrate advanced object recognition technologies more seamlessly.
At base, the kit offers a combination of sensor technologies, including automotive cameras, high-performance LiDAR, and an autonomous driving computer, into a single package. The kit also includes open-source software, enabling users to modify the code and drive their own research and development initiatives. In upgrading the kit, Tier IV is looking to provide an environment for advanced object recognition with sensor fusion, featuring hardware and software from its own autonomous driving systems. Through the new kit, customers will also be provided with a dedicated guide from Tier IV that offers insights on how to simplify the development process.
Tier IV highlighted that, through the newly-issued kit, it is aiming to address some of the technical challenges involved in sensor fusion, including sensor and computing hardware selection, environment setup with Robot Operating System 2, system synchronization and calibration, and perception module development. In helping customers solve these challenges, the company envisions its customers shortening time-to-market while reducing the development effort required for advanced objection recognition.
Designed for embedded edge computing applications, the renewed kit supports Nvidia Jetson AGX Orin, an energy-efficient AI platform for advanced robotics, autonomous machines, and next-generation embedded and edge computing. This new configuration altogether enables a single computer to perform multiple tasks, including point cloud processing and object detection with LiDAR, sensor fusion, and high dynamic range image recognition using deep learning with Tier IV’s automotive cameras.
