Tier IV, the open-source self-driving startup based in Japan, announced that it has raised over $100 million in total in a Series A funding round to facilitate commercialization of self-driving technology in (i) private areas, (ii) depopulated areas, and (iii) urban areas. This funding round, led by Sompo Japan Nipponkoa Insurance Inc., the Japanese major P&C insurance company, with participation from existing investors, Yamaha Motor (YMC), KDDI CORPORATION, JAFCO, and AISAN TECHNOLOGY enables Tier IV to become a global platform company and scale out its self-driving business.
