Nissan has launched the Townstar, a series of compact LCVs. It will replace the NV250 and e-NV200 in Nissan’s vehicle line-up. The Interstar and Primastar (previously the NV400 and NV300) fill out the OEM’s streamlined LCV offerings.

The all-electric Townstar will be built on the Alliance CMF-C platform and be available in van and passenger versions. It features a 44 kWh battery with an intelligent energy management system, and battery thermal cooling, and is capable of delivering a 285 km (177 miles) range and 245 Nm of torque. A refined gasoline engine option will be also available in van and passenger versions. Its 1.3-liter unit is capable of producing 130 PS and 240 Nm of torque.

The Townstar is the latest vehicle under the Nissan NEXT transformation plan, which prioritizes sustainable growth and profitability across the company’s global operations.

The all-new Townstar introduces a suite of technology, including a broad range of safety and ADAS features – including Trailer Sway Control, Intelligent Emergency Braking featuring Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection and Junction Assist, as well as ProPILOT Park (exclusive to the electric Townstar) and Intelligent Cruise Control (exclusive to the gasoline Townstar). ProPILOT, an ADAS featured on the electric model, helps the driver to keep the vehicle centered in a lane during highway driving and around sweeping corners.

Connectivity features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and wireless phone charging come as standard on all Townstar models, with further connected services available on the electric version at launch.

The van version of the Townstar features up to 3.9 square-meters of cargo space with a swiveling partition that increases available cargo space for long items. It is also capable of transporting two Euro pallets and 800 kg of cargo, and, depending on the powertrain, has a towing capacity of up to 1,500 kg.

The cargo area itself integrates large sliding doors that enable unloading and 60:40 French rear doors with 180 degree opening or tailgate rear door on the passenger version. It also includes smart storage solutions and a dedicated space for on-board office tools.

Launch timing of the all-new Townstar (both the gasoline and EV versions) will be disclosed at a later date.
