Motive, an AI-powered Integrated Operations Platform, has launched new AI capabilities that aim to address distracted and drowsy driving in Mexico. In rolling out its solution to the Mexico auto market, Motive is looking to help safety managers in the region proactively address both driver fatigue and other unsafe behaviors to improve fleet safety as a whole.

Mexico itself was selected by Motive based on a report by the Mexican Institute of Transportation (IMT) that found approximately half of all traffic collisions reported in 2023 to be caused by driver actions, including distracted and drowsy driving. The board similarly concluded that long hours on the road, exacerbated by labor shortages, push drivers to dangerous limits, resulting in risky behaviors such as crossing into oncoming traffic, unsafe lane changes, and fatal collisions.

Available with dual-facing AI Dashcams, Motive’s Drowsiness Detection leverages AI to detect early and advanced signs of drowsy driving, such as frequent yawning and when the driver closes their eyes. Upon detecting these signs, the system initially sends a real-time, in-cabin alert to drivers directing them to take a break. Safety managers are also notified to intervene, contact drivers, and reinforce recommended breaks. If the driver begins to fall asleep, in-cabin alerts are triggered automatically in order to wake them up and prevent a serious collision.

Accompanying this feature is Motive’s new AI-powered Forward Collision Warning that aims to prevent rear-end collisions. Offered as standard with all Motive AI Dashcams, this new safety capability detects when a driver approaches another vehicle ahead of them too quickly. By calculating speed, distance, and time to impact, it provides critical alerts that prompt drivers to brake.

In addition to both of these capabilities, Motive’s AI Dashcam more broadly works to enhance driver safety by detecting further unsafe driving behaviors including cell phone usage, unsafe lane change, close following, and speeding. Here, Motive says its dashcam generates alerts related to six unsafe driving behaviors up to four times more than similar solutions, empowering fleet customers with the visibility needed to prevent accidents and get their team home safely. The company altogether estimates that its AI Dashcam can facilitate an up to 80% reduction in accidents, a 30% reduction in accident-related costs, and a 21% reduction in insurance costs.

The new AI-powered Drowsiness Detection and AI-powered Forward Collision Warning integrate seamlessly into Motive’s platform and provide organizations across transportation, logistics, and other industries with the visibility and tools needed to combat key safety challenges
