MOIA, the autonomous vehicle subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, has revealed the ID. Buzz AD. Representing the first fully autonomous production vehicle from Volkswagen, the model has been specifically optimized for use in mobility services.
The ID. Buzz AD is likewise part of a comprehensive, end-to-end, solution that also includes a software ecosystem and services for operators of autonomous mobility services. Through this offering, MOIA is looking to offer both public and private mobility providers a turnkey package to launch autonomous services quickly, safely, and at scale.
MOIA says that its complete solution aims to unite the components needed to transform an autonomous vehicle into a ready-to-use mobility system. Here, it includes a vehicle homologated to automotive standards, featuring Mobileye’s self-driving system, along with a proprietary Autonomous Driving Mobility as a Service (AD MaaS) Ecosystem Platform. The software further utilizes AI to manage fleets in real time, assist passengers automatically, ensure safety, and integrate seamlessly into existing booking apps.
The software kit more broadly meets key regulatory requirements for SAE Level 4 automated vehicles, such as remote supervision and safe handling of edge like emergency interventions. The solution is rounded out by a third component: Operator Enablement. This provides full support to operators of autonomous vehicle fleets in implementing and operating an AD ecosystem – from simulation and training to deployment and live monitoring in day-to-day operations.
