GoMentum Station announced it will play a key role in shared autonomous vehicle (SAV) testing for the Contra Costa Transportation Authority’s (CCTA) four-year Automated Driving System (ADS) pilot program in collaboration with other partners. The program, which is part of a $7.5 million grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), will support three “real-world” demonstration projects, including shared autonomous transportation for a Walnut Creek senior community; autonomous vehicle shuttle service with a self-docking wheelchair apparatus for patients at County Hospital in Martinez; and the preparation of the Interstate 680 corridor for future connected autonomous vehicles.

Owned and operated by AAA Northern California, GoMentum Station is one of the nation’s largest secure testing facilities for connected and automated vehicle technology. As part of the ADS pilot program, GoMentum Station will facilitate SAV testing on its closed-course with the goal of ensuring vehicle safety before vehicles are deployed to provide service to the public. Throughout the testing, CCTA will share data with the USDOT.

CCTA’s ADS pilot program was designed in collaboration with AAA Northern California, County Connection, Advanced Mobility Group, and other public and private sector partnerships. It builds on the success of CCTA’s Connected and Autonomous Vehicle Program, which utilizes GoMentum Station as a test track, and has successfully advanced automation to improve vehicle safety and address challenges related to the safe integration of automated driving systems.
