General Motors (GM) has announced the completion of its previously-announced acquisition of GM Cruise Holdings LLC, following the approval of GM’s merger offer to the autonomous vehicle technology company by the Cruise Board of Directors. Following this acquisition, Cruise will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of GM.

Here, GM confirmed that Cruise will now work with it collaboratively on the development of both new autonomous vehicle technologies, and advanced driver assistance systems for personal vehicles spread across its brand portfolio. One of these planned integrations is the utilization of Cruise technology in GM’s Super Cruise assisted driving system. For customers in North America, Super Cruise offers a software platform that facilitates hands-off driving on 750,000 miles of roads across the region. Today, the platform is available on more than 20 GM-brand vehicles.

Together, GM and Cruise will more broadly focus on further developing driving assistance technology, expanding Super Cruise to surface streets in urban environments, and working towards the goal of developing and rolling out personal autonomous vehicles.
