The GAC Group has announced a joint project with Huawei to develop an autonomous smart SUV, which will enter mass production by the end of 2023.

The SUV will be the first joint product developed by GAC and Huawei and will bring new energy capabilities and deliver SAE Level 4 autonomous driving. Their strategic cooperation will allow them to build intelligent vehicles and develop new digital platforms. Vehicles developed in this partnership, including the SUV and future models, will utilize GAC’s GEP.30 chassis platform and Huawei’s CCA (Computing and Communication Architecture). They will also carry Huawei’s full stack of intelligent vehicle solutions.

Since signing a strategic cooperation agreement in 2017, GAC and Huawei have worked together in the fields of intelligent connected electric vehicle technology. In September 2020, the two firms signed an agreement to extend their cooperation, with a focus on computing and communication architecture in response to the growth of software-defined cars.

The global market for electric vehicles is only growing. Data predicts that the EV global market will expand almost fivefold between 2016 and 2027 – an annual increase of 20%. To meet this demand, GAC Group are planning to electrify its vehicle lineup by 2025.

Across their partnership, GAC and Huawei aim to produce eight mass-market models, and multiple EV series, that provide its customers with a new driving experience at an affordable price point.
