BlackBerry Limited’s QNX technology has been selected by CARIAD, the Volkswagen Group’s software company, for use as a key component of its forthcoming VW.OS software platform.

Currently in development, VW.OS works as part of a unified software platform that also consists of the Volkswagen Cloud VW.AC and a scalable, unified, end-to-end architecture. The Volkswagen Group expects its new platform will be available for its brands from the 2025.

BlackBerry will license QNX to CARIAD, including its QNX OS for Safety. Within VW.OS, it will be integrated into in the stack for ADAS and automated driving functions. Within it, the 2.2 version of its QNX OS for Safety will serve as a foundation. BlackBerry QNX will, in turn, also provide professional engineering and consulting services for system-level integration, performance optimization, and solution validation.

Based on BlackBerry’s QNX Neutrino real-time operating system, QNX OS for Safety is a fully POSIX-compliant, open standards-based system that embedded developers can use to build safety-critical systems. It has been certified to ISO 26262 ASIL D and enables OEMs and embedded software developers to reduce time-to-market and the costs involved in moving projects from research to production.
